Tonight, 24 NFL teams begin 2018 preseason play and the remaining eight join the fun over the weekend. While exhibition games do not count in the NFL…they matter. The preseason is a chance for NFL teams to see how well young players or players coming off injury fare in live game settings, and are central to the decision making process as teams assemble their final 53-man rosters. And to help give you an idea of what to look for around the league as the games (unofficially) commence this week is my right-hand man Hal Bent of FullPressCoverage.com.

- What did you think of Lamar Jackson’s performance in the Hall of Fame game?
- What things stood out with the Bears?
-With Corey Coleman traded and Antonio Callaway busted again…which Browns WR has the biggest opportunity to prove himself worthy of a starting job in this game?
-FWIW, the Browns listed Nick Chubb as the third RB on the depth chart. Do you really think he’s that far behind Carlos Hyde?
-Even though he’ll likely be on the field for a couple of possessions, what clues can we get from Saquon Barkley?
-Aside from Saquon Barkley, what is the biggest thing to watch on the Giants side of the ball?
-While the biggest Colts storyline in this game is obviously the return of Andrew Luck, I am focused on who (aside from TY Hilton) he’ll be throwing to. As of now, Ryan Grant is penciled in as the WR2. However, sixth-round pick Deon Cain has been the talk of training camp. If he translates that momentum into production on the field, should the Colts consider making him the WR2 sometime soon?
-The Colts might have a 3-4 man rotation at RB. Two pieces of that committee are rookies in Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins. Also, Robert Turbin is suspended the first four games of the year, opening the door for one of those rookies to seize a healthy role early on. If you had to make a guess, does Hines or Wilkins make a stronger case this week?
-The most inspirational story of the 2018 NFL Draft, Shaquem Griffin, has been balling out in training camp for the Seahawks. Many saw him as a special teams demon with upside as a good situational pass rusher. However, he is more than that. He picked off a Russell Wilson pass during a team red zone drill in practice. Should the Seahawks give him some snaps at dime LB?
-If the preseason confirms that Chris Carson is indeed significantly outplaying Rashaad Penny, how alarming should that be to the Seahawks front office?
-Who do you think will win the battle for Chargers kicker, Caleb Sturgis or Roberto Aguayo?
-Who needs a better preseason? Mike Williams or Kyzir White?
-Would you play David Johnson on Saturday if you were the Cardinals?
-The Vikings are currently banged up on the OL. Four of five starters will not play in Saturday’s game…and the four backups playing each have fewer than 16 career starts in the NFL. Would the Vikings be wise to make Dalvin Cook the main act during the starters time on the field?
-Do you see either Mike Hughes or Holton Hill passing Mackensie Alexander on the depth chart with a solid preseason performance?
-With the Broncos starters only playing a maximum of two possessions, what are the biggest potential clues to look for from the Broncos in this game?
- What other games are you looking forward to this week and why?
