#40 NFL Opening Week Preview with Hal Bent the Pats writer at Scout Media

September 08, 2017

NFL football is officially back as the 2017 season kicked off last night with the Chiefs pulling off a remarkable upset victory over the defending-Super Bowl champion Patriots. Today, we will recap that game and preview the rest of the action in what promises to be an exciting opening week in the National Football League with our good friend Hal Bent, who covers the Patriots for Scout media, and

  1. Does Eric Berry’s season-ending Achilles injury put more pressure on the Chiefs defense or offense?
  2. Last night was an off night for the Patriots on both sides of the ball (and I would say defense even more so than offense), but a lot of Twitter was hopping on the “Tom Brady is done” bandwagon. Brady might have shown some signs of age last night, but he also showed he’s far from done (in my opinion). Do you blame his struggles last night more on age, the injuries to Edelman and Amendola, or a mixture of both?
  3. Raiders/Titans
  • Do you see this being the high-scoring game myself and most others are expecting?
  • Who is more likely to win this game: The team that runs the ball better or the team whose defense makes more big plays?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Seahawks/Packers
  • How much more dangerous is the Seahawks D given the addition of Sheldon Richardson?
  • Which weak-link hurts their team more: Seahawks OL or Packers CB’s?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Giants/Cowboys
  • Which absence or potential absence hurts more?: Odell Beckham (whether he sits out or plays at far less than 100%) or David Irving?
  • Who has the edge in the battle between the Giants OL and Cowboys DL?
  • How big of a barometer is this game when it comes to judging how much of a second-year leap (if any) Dak Prescott will make)
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Rapid Fire Predictions for the rest of the Week 1 games
  • Jaguars/Texans, Falcons/Bears, Jets/Bills, Ravens/Bengals, Steelers/Browns, Eagles/Redskins, Cardinals/Lions, Panthers/49ers, Colts/Rams, Saints/Vikings, Chargers/Broncos

And that’s all for today here on Sports Krunch with DKrom. But we’ll be sure to catch our week 1 fantasy football analysis with Jody Smith (…so stay tuned!!
