#45 NFL Week 5 Preview w/Hal Bent, Patriots writer for, and Scout media

October 04, 2017

Well, we are already a quarter of the way through the 2017 NFL season (can you believe it?) and for the second week in a row, the NFL brought us some more exciting, heart-palpitating finishes. And Week 5 brings us a slate that promises more of such quality entertainment, beginning this Thursday night as week 5 kicks off with the Patriots meeting the Buccaneers for what could be a shootout in Tampa. And to help us preview that and the other intriguing week 5 contests, let’s bring in our good friend Hal Bent, Patriots writer for, and Scout media, to the show.

  1. What were your four big takeaways from Week 4??
  2. Patriots/Buccaneers
  • What is the bigger problem for the Patriots defense: Lack of pass rush or communication issues in the secondary?
  • Is it fair to expect the Patriots to show dramatic improvement on defense in just four days or should we expect a shootout?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Panthers/Lions
  • Was the Panthers offensive performance against the Patriots more due to the Pats porous defense, letting Cam be Cam, or both?
  • So far, the Lions offense isn’t where they should be. They currently rank 22nd in net points/possession, 28th in net yards/possession, and 25th in first downs/possession. What should their game plan on offense be against this Panthers defense?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Seahawks/Rams
  • Due to their struggles against the Rams on the road in recent years plus the fact that they will be without two key players in this game (Cliff Avril, Chris Carson), is there more pressure on the Seahawks to win this game than there is on the Rams?
  • Matchup that will decide this game?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Packers/Cowboys
  • How much will Sean Lee returning help a Cowboys defense facing Aaron Rodgers coming off 11 days of rest?
  • If Ezekiel Elliott doesn’t play this week, how well do you think Alfred Morris can fill the void?
  • Who wins and why?
  1. Chiefs/Texans
  • What are some things Deshaun Watson can do better in order to deliver an efficient performance against a much more talented defense? (Texans 90 points in last two games)
  • Do you think the injury-depleted Chiefs OL going against that Texans front could be enough for Houston to pull off the upset?
  1. Rapid Fire Predictions for the rest of the Week 5 games
  • Jaguars/Steelers, Jets/Browns, Bills/Bengals, Titans/Dolphins, 49ers/Colts, Chargers/Giants, Cardinals/Eagles, Ravens/Raiders, Vikings/Bears

And that’s all for today here on Sports Krunch with DKrom!! But we’ll be back next week with a look at week 6, so stay tuned!!!
